GIS DAY 2006!
GIS Day 2006 was a hit! From 10am to 2:30 I was helping run a booth for the Fairfax County Department of Transportation, at the Government Center in Fairfax. There were not as many people this year as there were last year, though there were at least 200 maps on display, and about 10 booths. At 3pm I went to the GIS celebration at GMU, and sat through some presentations. A reprehensive from Northrop Grumman described a "terrain table" as a 2000lb. piston driven, maluable surface in which data can be input, and 3-d topology would result on this pool table sized GIS unit. I want one! The presentation from the lone Fairfax City GIS employee proves that a single person, well versed in Geographic Information Systems, can run an entire city, even though the city is only 6-7 sq. miles. GIS is the future and the demand is overwhelming.
